The Master’s programme in Sports Psychology brings together two fields that have a significant impact on and connect both society as a whole and us as individuals. As the programme combines two academic disciplines, we offer it in partnership with IST University of Management – which has a specialisation in sports science – whilst HSD Hochschule Döpfer possesses expertise in the field of psychology.

In addition to the core topics of (sports) psychological assessment, intervention methods, team and performance development, and the regulation of emotions and motivation in sport, students also acquire key skills in (data) analysis, research methods and evaluation research.
Furthermore, both social and coaching skills are playing an increasingly important role for sports psychologists; these are taught primarily in the Sports Psychology Coaching module. The aim is therefore to prepare students adequately for such a responsible role and for a career as a sports psychologist.
Admission to the Master's deggree programme in Sports Psychology at the HSD requires a bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) in psychology, sports science, sports management, health sciences (e.g. physiotherapy) or related fields.

Standard duration of study: 6 semesters part-time and 4 semesters full-time (it is possible to shorten the standard duration of study on an individual basis – please get in touch with us!)

Credits: 120 ECTS credits
Tuition fees: €495 per month for the full-time programme or €370 per month for the part-time programme. This includes all fees associated with the programme.

Organisation: The programme comprises both asynchronous and synchronous learning phases.
- During the asynchronous learning period, you will receive multimedia resources for self-study. These include, amongst other things, instructional videos, lecture notes, podcasts, as well as assignments to be submitted and other assessments of learning progress (e.g. quizzes).
In addition, there are supplementary materials (extended reading) that allow you to explore the content in greater depth in a personalised and interest-driven way.
The materials are made available to you centrally via a learning platform. - In addition, there are synchronous study phases during which you meet virtually with your fellow students and lecturers in so-called live sessions. These are designed to be interactive and provide opportunities for discussion, feedback and joint practice (e.g. case studies).
Virtual support is primarily provided via forums. Here, you can discuss questions or receive regular feedback. However, you also have the option of contacting lecturers directly, for example during virtual consultation hours, via email or video calls.
As this is an online distance-learning programme, virtual self-study accounts for more than 50 per cent of the course. This allows you to tailor your study periods to suit your personal circumstances, enabling you to pursue your academic development conveniently alongside work and family life.
Please note: Students who hold a Bachelor’s degree in sports or health sciences will undertake foundation modules in psychology; students with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology will undertake foundation modules in sports sciences. All students work together to specialise in areas of sports psychology, as well as in research methods, empirical data collection and analysis, and psychological assessment.
