The Master’s programme in Health Education equips you for a wide range of career paths in the health and social care sectors, including teaching roles in education institutions, training and consultancy roles in companies and organisations, as well as leadership positions in health management and health policy.
The programme combines pedagogical methods with content from the health sciences to provide education for teachers and trainers in the health and social care sectors. In addition to pedagogy, didactics, health sciences, psychology and health economics, the programme also incorporates prevention, health promotion, rehabilitation and care.
Upon graduation, you will be able to work in various settings such as hospitals, care homes, health centres, educational institutions, non-profit organisations and government agencies.
On the Master's deggree programme in Health Pedagogy (MA), you will acquire advanced medical and pedagogical-didactic skills that will, in principle, qualify you for roles in health education schools or vocational colleges.
The programme prepares you for roles as skilled professionals, practical instructors, mentors and/or tutors. It also equips you to work as an assessor or adviser in the healthcare sector, or in humanresources and organisational development within healthcare organisations, associations, health insurance funds, health and social care institutions, prevention centres, independent welfare organisations and youth support services, in residential homes, social counselling centres and other similar settings.
Career opportunities depend on the respective authorisation procedures of the individual federal states or district authorities.
Upon successful completion, the Master's deggree programme in Health Pedagogy enables students
- to engage critically with theories relating to vocational policy and pedagogy (educational science) and to establish their connection to pedagogical practice
- to demonstrate teamwork skills and empathy towards others in relation to the role of an educational specialist in vocational education, further education and professional development
- to evaluate the effectiveness of one’s own professional practice and to adapt or develop new strategies
- to recognise societal developments
- to participate in academic research through knowledge of various research methods
- to integrate knowledge into more complex contexts, as well as to act responsibly and engage in civil society and civic participation
- to independently deepen their subject-specific and pedagogical-didactic knowledge
Entry requirements for the M.A. programme To enrol on the Master's deggree programme in Health Pedagogy at HSD Hochschule Döpfer, applicants must provide evidence of a first professional qualification upon which the Master's deggree programme in Medical Pedagogy is based, e.g. a Bachelor's degree programme (210 ECTS) in Medical Pedagogy, Nursing Education or a comparable subject.
The Master’s programme can be undertaken with either a Bachelor’s degree in an educational discipline or a Bachelor’s degree in healthcare; however, the modules in the first two semesters differ in some respects (see study plan).

Organisation: Face-to-face teaching usually takes place six times per semester, on Fridays and Saturdays.
