With our B.Sc. Physician Assistance programme, you can give your career the next boost!
Thanks to a relatively high degree of location flexibility and flexibility in terms of time, the programme is also highly compatible with full-time work. Only a limited proportion of the programme requires physical attendance at the University of Applied Sciences, whilst the majority takes place in medical facilities or at your chosen flexible learning location.
The role of thephysician assistant has already been successfully established in numerous healthcare and social care settings. In addition to hospitals, there is, for example, a growing need in general practitioners’ and family doctors’ practices for academically qualified medical staff to ease the workload on doctors.
Some other possible areas of work include, for example:
- medical centres and healthcare centres,
- rehabilitation clinics or day clinics,
- general practice and specialist outpatient facilities,
- dialysis centres,
- and many more.
During the degree programme, you will acquire a broad range of medical knowledge. Thanks to focused on-campus modules, virtual classes and intensive support during the self-study periods, you will be able to continue practising your profession. Over the course of the Bachelor’s programme, you will acquire the skills needed to adapt your professional expertise to rapidly changing requirements and to address specific medical issues in a scientifically sound manner, in line with international professional standards.
Modern teaching methods are used to impart knowledge. In some modules, the ‘flipped classroom’ approach is employed. Within this framework, the input and practice phases are reversed: with the help of teaching materials (lecture notes, online videos, etc.), students can acquire basic knowledge through self-study, for example at home, at their own pace. In the subsequent classes, this existing knowledge is then consolidated or put into practice with experts. This allows individual needs to be better catered for.
Admission with a (specialised) Abitur:
- General university entrance qualification
- Subject-specific university entrance qualification
- University of Applied Sciences entrance qualification
- Subject-specific University of Applied Sciences Qualification
and a completed vocational qualification in a regulated healthcare profession. First-year students on thework-integrated learning programme must have a university entrance qualification and may only commence their studies from the second year of their apprenticeship onwards.
Admission without a (subject-specific) school-leaving certificate:
- A passed master craftsman’s examination or an equivalent qualification, and a completed vocational training programme in a regulated healthcare profession
- Completion of lower secondary education or an equivalent qualification, plus completed vocational training in a regulated healthcare profession and at least two years’ professional experience
Note: If you have already completed your education, 60 ECTS credits may be transferred at the start of your studies in the part-time programme. In the work-integrated programme, this is possible once you have completed your education.
Applicants who have completed education in one of the following areas do not need to sit an equivalence examination:
- Registered Nurse
- Healthcare and nursing assistant
- Paediatric nurse
- Geriatric care worker, Medical assistant
- Surgical technician
- Anaesthesia Technician
- Paramedic
- Physiotherapist
- Occupational therapist
- Medical Laboratory Technician
- Medical radiology assistant
- Medical laboratory assistant for functional diagnostics
All other eligible applicants must sit an equivalence examination.

Type of programme: part-time, alongside vocational training from the second year of training onwards (from the 2025/2026 academic year)
Study locations: Potsdam, Cologne, Regensburg, Hamburg (from the summer semester 2026)
Start of programme: at the start of the winter semester (1 September) and the spring semester (1 March)
Standard duration of study:
- part-time: 6 semesters
- concurrent with vocational training: 8 semesters
It is possible to shorten the standard duration of study on an individual basis in recognition of outstanding academic achievement – please do get in touch!
Degree awarded: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)
Credit points: 210 ECTS credits
Organisation: Face-to-face teaching usually takes place three to five times per semester. Virtual evening sessions are held approximately three times a month (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.00 pm). Attendance at these sessions is not compulsory.
Please note: We recommend working part-time (rather than full-time) whilst studying, to ensure you have sufficient time for your studies.
Tuition fees:
- Part-time (whilst working): €550 per month
- While in vocational training: €285 per month (semesters 1–4) or €550 per month (semesters 5–8)
Intensive course: on a voluntary basis, you can spend one semester preparing for the main course of study (cost: €240 per month). Lessons take place once a week online.
