Sustainability at HSD

Embedded in our mission statem

Sustainability is important to us

As part of the Green University Working Group, we have developed measures to achieve our goals of a climate-neutral and largely paperless university. In our mission statement, we have enshrined sustainability as a social responsibility of the university.

Following the example of the University and Sustainability Network, we have defined six key areas:

Incorporation into the mission statement, and the annual planning of measures in close consultation and collaboration with the university management.

Student projects and initiatives at HSD, work placements at partner universities, competitions.

Reducing paper and plastic use, digitalisation, Fairtrade, a sustainable transport plan.

Incorporating new scientific findings into teaching and guest lectures.

Research projects and dissertations.

Science communication, development of university certificates, awards.

For President Prof. Dr Karin Kohlstedt, the issue of sustainability plays a particularly important role:

“As a university, we have a role model function, both for our students and staff and for organisations and the general public – particularly a university like the HSD with a focus on health, psychology and social sciences. Health and environmental protection are closely linked, for example when students and staff consciously choose not to use their cars and travel to the university by bicycle or public transport.”
